Farmers Markets!

We are excited to be back at the market for the season! We now have a booth at the Hollywood Farmers Market on Saturdays from 8am - 1pm. We love participating in the markets; we are always getting inspiration from all the other amazing vendors and the beautiful fresh produce we can't help but drool over. Visit our booth and you'll find a great variety of fresh pastries, scones, donuts, cinnamon rolls, quiche, and more!

FALL Fling

We are introducing our new fall flavor roster on September 19th! On this menu we’re bringing back some fall favorites — our Vegan Apple Cardamom Coffeecake, filled with fresh apple compote is always a winner— and introducing a variety of new and exciting products. We are particularly thrilled about our new Brown Butter Blondie, which is rich, nutty, and caramely. Our chewy Dairy Free Ginger Spice Cookies will also make a comeback, and we have a bright new Cranberry Muffin made with a hint of orange for those who just aren’t ready to give up on berries quite yet. retail shop

Our retail shop is now open 7 days a week! Our hours are Sunday - Thursday 7am - 4pm, Friday & Saturday 7am - 5pm.!

Our bright and airy shop is a great place to try our pastries and desserts along with a cup of Water Avenue Coffee or Jasmine Pearl Tea. We always have a variety of cakes, donuts, cookies, pretzels, quiche, and more in our case!

We are happy to accommodate most special order requests with a minimum of 48 hours notice by noon. Visit our Contact page to find out how to place a special order, ask us question, or discover where you can find our pastries around town.

About GEM

Gluten Free Gem is an independent, family run bakery located in Portland’s Lloyd District. Owners Anne and Mike Miller started baking gluten free at CCP Gluten Free Bakeshop in 2006 when their daughter was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. By April of 2011, the bakery had outgrown its SW Corbett location and moved to N. Hancock St. With this move came a name change, to celebrate the original Gems: Anne and Mike’s daughters Greta and Emma Miller.

In 2017 the bakery moved again, to 140 NE Broadway St., to make room for a larger production facility and a retail shop. Stop by the shop to sample our tasty treats, made for everyone!

 

The bakery is a GFCO Certified bakery, to eliminate any risk of cross-contamination. As part of this certification we do extensive ingredient research to ensure that everything we use, as well as our facility, is clean of gluten. In addition to our gluten awareness, we also train all our employees about the risk of cross-contamination from other allergens. We are continually educating ourselves on new research and information regarding Celiac Disease, gluten-intolerance, and gluten-free baking. We take the potential health risks of gluten contamination as seriously as the need for our pastries to taste delicious.

Over the last ten years, our understanding of eating and baking gluten-free has grown immensely, and so has our menu. We plan on continuing to develop new gluten-free products that help to change the perception of what gluten-free baking can be, all the while maintaining our 100% gluten-free facility, where everything is delicious and safe to eat.

Our items below rotate seasonally; here is our current menu. The pastries in our shop rotate daily, please call in advance to see if we have what you are looking for. All special orders need to be placed two days in advance by noon and are based on availbility. To place your order please call the bakery directly during normal business hours.

Desserts

All special orders must be placed two days in advance by noon. Custom decorations are available for cakes, cupcakes, and cheesecakes. Please call the bakery during normal business hours to place an order. We do our best to accommodate most special order requests, so it never hurts to ask if you're looking for something special. We do sell out on occasion, so we always recommend placing your order as soon as possible. 

We offer a wide variety of filling and frosting flavors for our cakes and cupcakes. Flavors can be mixed and matched to create the perfect cake for your event.

Popular Cake and Cupcake Flavors:

Chocolate Salted Caramel Cake: Always a favorite, this three layer chocolate cake is filled with rich chocolate ganache, frosted in salted caramel buttercream, and flooded with chocolate ganache.

Tiramisu Cake: Three layers of vanilla cake are soaked in cold brew coffee, filled with sweet mascarpone, and dusted with a traditional cocoa powder. This cake is extra moist and decadent!

Vegan Apple Spice Cake: This fall-flavored vegan spice cake is filled with apple compote and decorated with vegan caramel spice frosting.

Vanilla Raspberry Cupcakes: Vanilla cupcakes filled with bright homemade raspberry jam and decorated with silky vanilla buttercream.

Vegan Coconut Dream Cupcakes: Vegan chocolate cupcakes filled with creamy coconut ganache, topped with fluffy coconut frosting, and decorated with toasted coconut flakes.

Wedding Cakes

Our decorators love working with couples to make cakes that fit any wedding celebration, large and small. We are more than happy to accommodate most flavor and allergen requests. For a complete list of cake flavor options, please visit our desserts page.

We are well versed in a wide range of decorating styles and techniques in buttercream and fondant. Our decorators will work with you to create a cake that fits your personal story or theme to make your day extra special.

Prices vary depending on the level of detail and flavor combinations. Please contact the bakery for more information and pricing. 

Delivery
Delivery and set up within 5 miles of the bakery is $50. Destinations further out, subject to increase and availability.

Payment
A 50% non-refundable deposit is due upon placing your order.
The remaining 50% and delivery fee are due 2 weeks before the event.

Tastings
Sit down tastings are $30 to sample three flavor combinations of your choice.

Take home tastings available for $25.  Take home tastings require payment at time of order.

The tasting fee will be applied to your order of $150 or more.
